I was walking down the street
Minding my own business
When out of the corner of my eye
I spotted a man on the floor
Who appeared to be suffering a cardiac arrest
So of course, I hurried over…

You know - I’m a nice person
I like to help when it’s needed
I remembered my emergency life support training
That I received through my job
I quickly called 999
And then got down on to my knees
And began performing chest compressions
1 and 2 and 3 and 4,
120 bpm is actually the required rate
I remember this
because it’s the same as some disco tune
“c’mon maaan please don’t die on me”
I cried out to the empty street

The voice on the telephone advised me to stay calm
But just as I was about to perform
mouth to mouth resuscitation
I noticed his rosette
And then
Some flyers he was holding in his hand


Listeners - this was no decent man
This pathetic excuse for a human being was out canvasing for
the Conservative and Unionist Party of Great Britain
I stopped, took a breath
Did a double-take and questioned my own morals

Surely every human deserves to be treated equally?
I pondered, looking at his face becoming redder and redder
Surely, I wouldn’t just let a fellow man die without trying to save his life…
Would I?

I preached, as other passers-by began to gather
This man has an order in place that says
DO NOT RESUSCITATE I said

Before I pronounced him dead at 20:23
The ambulance arrived and carried away his body
From the gawping crowd which had formed around me
I slid away quietly, proud that I had set myself some boundaries

None of my precious energy should be wasted helping a man
Who would not have helped me
A man who believed that we are all responsible for our own destinies
A man invested in destroying our communities

R. I. P. Tory scum, at least there will be free heating in hell!
